Toyota Sienna

Most of us are guilty of speeding. It’s easy to do when you are in a hurry and oftentimes, it just becomes a habit. However, it’s a bad habit! Here are a few arguments against speeding on the road.

LOWERS FUEL EFFICIENCY

Although it can be different for each vehicle, most vehicles operate at ideal efficiency somewhere around 55 mph. Travel above that and you are using more fuel and getting less power exponentially. Try lowering your speed for a month and comparing your fuel costs. You may be surprised!

INTERRUPTS TRAFFIC

To be safe, traffic must be predictable. When you speed, you are creating a degree of unpredictability to those around you. People are more likely to change lanes in front of you because they are expecting the traffic around them to be predictable. Why not be responsible and contribute to a safe driving environment?

INCREASES STRESS

Speeding can increase your stress on the road. When you are going faster than everyone else, and traffic is heavy, this means you are having to constantly pass people. Some people are happy to get out of your way. Others may seem clueless. This can create frustration and annoyance. Why not go with the flow, put on the cruise control and relax?

Instead of having a “Let’s get this over with” attitude about your commute, try to enjoy it! Enjoy some peace and quiet or check out new music or listen to a comedy album. You might find that you don’t mind slowing down at all. Hurlbert Toyota wants to promote safe driving from all of our customers!

Car Washing

Washing your car is one of the easiest tasks you can do to protect, and even improve, its resale value. While it may sound simple, there are a few things you should and shouldn’t do to get the most out of your time behind the sponge. Here at Hurlbert Toyota, we’ve got some car washing tips that will both protect your paint and get your car as clean as possible!

Washing your car should be done when it’s cool out, preferably during the morning or evening, and when the car itself is cold. Washing right after driving or under the hot sun will dry water and soap faster. Not only will it take longer to get rid of spots but you may miss some altogether.

As for what you should use, avoid household cleaners and detergents. They aren’t meant for washing a car and may strip off paint’s protective wax. Instead, use a dedicated car wash that’s specifically designed for use on automotive paint.

Use a separate sponge for the wheels. Grains of sand, dirt, and rocks can get caught in the sponge and using it on the paint after the wheels can leave scratches. For the best result, use a natural, soft sponge or lamb’s-wool mitt. Avoid washing in circles as well. This can leave swirl marks that are noticeable on the paint.

As the official partner to the Special Olympics World Games, Toyota has dedicated three murals to the Special Olympics which portray Special Olympics athletes and related historic events. The murals were dedicated last Tuesday, July 7, and were part of Toyota’s Share the Journey Campaign.

Each mural was painted by a different artist: one by David Flores, which can be seen at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum; one by Cryptik located on South Figueroa Street; and one Kent Twitchell found on South Hope Street. These gorgeous murals are now part of the LA landscape and will showcase the journeys of Special Olympics athletes for years to come.

These murals are a throwback to the original Los Angeles murals painted for the 1984 Olympic Games. This year’s Special Olympics World Games will be held from July 25 through August 2. Toyota says that the murals are both a dedication to the Special Olympics athletes and a tribute to LA’s storied history of outdoor art.

Cat in towel

Kitten season is officially upon us, meaning animal shelters across the country are being flooded with tiny furry friends, in addition to the adult population already on hand. This is why June is recognized as Adopt-a-Cat month. If you’ve been considering adding a fuzzy friend to your family, spend some time to find the purrfect new addition.

The American Humane Association offers some great advice when considering adopting a cat. Here are some of their suggestions.

  • Consider adopting two. Cats are very social animals, and with two cats on hand, they will be able to keep each other company. This is especially useful if you work full-time and they are left alone all day.
  • Find a cat with a complimentary personality. Visit with multiple cats and talk with workers at the animal shelter to help you find a cat with a personality that works with yours.
  • Introduce the cat slowly to the family. If you have young children or other pets at home, your new cat will need a few weeks to adjust. Keep them in a secluded area with everything they need and slowly work them into your family unit.

To help you find the ideal kitty, use sites like petfinder.com to search for local cats that are available for adoption. You can even customize the search for adult cats, kittens, and other needs, such as the cat being declawed.

Will you be adding a cuddly, purring addition to your family soon? Send Hurlbert Toyota some pictures if you do!
