Environmental Milestone

Everyone, including Toyota, knows the importance of protecting the environment. This is why Toyota is proud to be named one of the world’s greenest companies. Newsweek recently included Toyota in its list of the greenest Global 500 companies.

Toyota comes in at #35, a jump of 57 spots over last year’s results. Toyota is also #2 among car manufacturers. To measure environmental performance, Newsweek used eight metrics, including energy, water, and waste levels.

“We are proud to be recognized as one of the world’s greenest companies,” said Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor North America chief executive officer, in a statement. “Through continuous improvement, our global teams have made great strides in reducing our environmental impact. From hybrids to fuel cells, Toyota is at the forefront of developing energy efficient technologies. We are deeply committed to contributing to the environment, our communities, and to leading the future of sustainable mobility.”

In addition to producing fuel-efficient, green vehicles, Toyota has been working on reducing its carbon footprint in other areas, too. In North America, Toyota has saved more than 93 million gallons of water and reduced energy by 22% at its manufacturing facilities.

Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander

Obviously, the needs of one family can vary greatly from the needs of another. That is why there is never a one-size-fits-all perfect family car. To help families of all shapes and sizes find the best car for them, each year Kelley Blue Book creates a list of the 15 Best Family Cars.

For 2015, three Toyota models were named Best Family Cars, including the 2015 Toyota Camry, 2015 Highlander, and 2015 Sienna.

For smaller families with only one or two children, the Toyota Camry may be the ideal choice. With the 2015 model, families can enjoy the Camry’s bold new design along with a comfortable interior and improved driving performance. And, with its strong reputation for reliability and high resale value, families won’t be left stranded.

If three rows of seating is what your family needs, Kelley Blue Book recommends the Toyota Highlander. This 3-row crossover stands above the crowded competition with its ideal size and seating layout for up to eight passengers. With the pop-out conversation mirror, Mom and Dad can always keep an eye on what’s going on in the backseat.

Nothing can beat a minivan when it comes to the perfect family hauler and the Toyota Sienna is one of the best. The Sienna is still the only minivan on the market to offer all-wheel drive, making it the ideal choice for families who have to battle wintery weather. It has a variety of seating configurations for seven or eight passengers and offers plenty of storage space and creature comforts, including Toyota’s Entune system, a wide-screen rear-seat entertainment system that can play two movies at once, and the Driver Easy Speak that allows parents to talk to the third-row passengers without yelling.

Which of these Toyota models is the ideal choice for your family? Can’t decide? Stop by Hurlbert Toyota and try them all on for size.

2015 Toyota Highlander

With gas prices falling, SUVs are becoming more and more popular. Right now, there are a ton of great mid-sized SUVs available to car customers, making that segment one of the most competitive categories in the industry these days. However, despite the many great options out there, when it comes to picking the best of the best, “there can be only one.” Appropriately enough, that exclusive title belongs to the 2015 Toyota Highlander, which was recently chosen by Kelley Blue Book as the KBB Best Buy mid-size SUV.

According to Torque News, the good people at Kelley Blue Book thought that the 2015 Highlander differentiated itself from other vehicles thanks to its “superb combination of contemporary charm and practical capability.” The respected automotive publication also praised the Highlander by saying that the “well-styled and well-sorted midsize SUV simply does the best job of seamlessly mixing and matching the things that count most into a single engaging package.”

In addition to this exciting endorsement, the 2015 Toyota Highlander was recently named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. If you’d like to learn more about the safe and award-winning Highlander, stop by Hulbert Toyota today.

Toyota Tundra

Cars.com released their most recent list of “Most American” cars recently, which names vehicles that use over 75% domestically sourced parts and are assembled and sold in the United States. Sadly, only 10 cars were able to make the list this year. That’s the fewest in history. What is the brand with the most vehicles on the list, you ask? Toyota!

With four vehicles on the “Most American” list, Toyota takes the cake this Fourth of July.

The Toyota Camry, Sienna, Tundra, and Avalon fit the criteria of using American parts and labor thanks to assembly plants in Georgetown, KY, Lafayette, Indiana, and San Antonio, TX.

At Hurlbert Toyota, we’re glad to represent a company that is so committed to the US auto industry and creating new jobs in our country.

Environmental Milestone

It can be difficult to balance manufacturing automobiles while also keeping the environment safe, but Toyota Indiana seems to have figured out just how to do it. Recently, the Japanese carmaker received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award, and it’s easy to see why.

In May 2008, Toyota Indiana implemented its Afforestation Area, which called for the planting of native trees to the area on much of the 1,160 acres of land that the plant resides on. It is now six years later, and Norm Bafunno, Toyota Indiana President, has happily announced that last month, the plant reached a new environmental milestone after the planting of the 100,000th tree in the Afforestation Area. This means that more than 20 trees were planted for each of the company’s 4,700 team members.

“Our Environmental Affairs team and Production team members have collaborated throughout the years to implement many innovative ways to reduce energy consumption,” said John Stevens, Manager, Plant Engineering & Environmental. “From wastewater sludge reduction to our focused recycling efforts, teamwork has made it all possible.”

Currently, more than 130,000 trees have been planted in the Afforestation Area, helping establish Toyota as a leader in environmental sustainability. If you’re interested in seeing Toyota’s environmentally friendly lineup, stop by Hurlbert Toyota today!
