Toyota GT86 - Scion FR-S

The Toyota GT86 goes by many names, and this is Scion’s version – the FR-S.

The Toyota GT86 goes by many names including Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, and Scion FR-S. With Scion officially leaving the market and taking on new Toyota badging, the Toyota GT86 is officially back in the United States. That’s not the end of it. Toyota recently revealed a GT86 Shooting Brake Concept that’s sure to blow enthusiasts away.

Toyota’s global chief engineer Tetsuya Tada is the mastermind behind the Toyota 86 so when the automaker’s Australian design team presented a model of the concept, he was all over it. Upon his return to Japan, he handpicked craftsman to bring the hatchback to life.

The end result is a GT86 hatchback that maintains the sporty coupe styling the 86 is known for. The Shooting Brake Concept isn’t just for show either. The vehicle has made a few laps on Toyota’s test tracks.

There’s no specific powertrain details just yet. The Toyota 86 shares the Subaru BRZ’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of producing 197 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque when mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota hasn’t confirmed a production model but they haven’t denied it either, leaving the Toyota GT86 Shooting Brake Concept’s future a mystery.

Here at Hurlbert Toyota, we can’t wait to see if the Shooting Brake Concept becomes a production model!
