Whether Thanksgiving will be hosted at your house or you’re travelling, it tends to be a stressful time of year. If you want to help lessen some of that anxiety, here are a few tips on how to have a stress-free Thanksgiving.
- Play it safe. If you love to cook, you might want to try some adventurous new recipes, but everyone is expecting the classic dishes like mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and turkey. And, when cooking a new recipe, you never really know how it’s going to turn out. Just stick with what you know and everyone loves for a classic Thanksgiving feast.
- Delegate. You really don’t have to do all the cooking by yourself. Ask guests to bring their favorite dishes, or you can even request a specific dish for them to make.
- Work ahead. Make as much food ahead of time as you can. Bread and pie crust can be made weeks ahead and kept in the freezer, and you can always make your non-refrigerated pies a day or two in advance. Be sure to clean out the fridge and freezer so you have plenty of space.
- Plan. Make sure you know how many people are coming and when, and make sure you make a schedule for what you need to cook, when.
- Take a break/ask for help. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break. Thanksgiving will still be there even if you burn the rolls. And, don’t forget that there are plenty of people who are likely more than willing to lend you a hand.
