New Hampshire July 4th

New Hampshire July 4th

New Hampshire July 4th celebrations are plentiful. In fact, you might have a harder time deciding which ones you don’t want to go to than finding one in the first place.

15th Annual American Celebration in Portsmouth

On July 1st, 3rd, and 4th, the Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth has a festival in honor of the country’s anniversary, featuring activities ranging from 1940s-style swing dance to a Naturalization Ceremony for new citizens to the Old-Fashion Field Day event.

2nd Annual Light Up the Sky in Salem

Nearby Salem High School celebrates its second year hosting this 4th of July event with food, drink, and activities that include dancing, fire safety trailer tours by the Salem Fire Department, and even the singing competition Salem Idol.

Big Island Pond Fireworks Show

A lake that stretches from Atkinson through Darry and Hampstead, the Big Island Pond is an awesome place to be for the annual fireworks show. The date is currently set for July 3rd, but if the event is rained out it will be moved to the next day on July 4th. The show begins at 9:15pm.

Fireworks Over Wolfeboro Bay

This one’s a bit of a drive from Hurlbert Toyota’s hometown of Epping—an hour drive, to be exact—but the spectacle of the July 4th  parade followed by fireworks over Wolfeboro Bay that evening is an event that can’t be missed.

We at Hurlbert Toyota picked out our favorite New Hampshire July 4th events for you to check out. Of course, these are only four of them, and there are plenty more out there.

travel tips for Christmas - keep your kids safe in carseats

The Christmas season is one of the busiest travel times of the year. This means, of course, that there will be more cars on the road than usual. Unfortunately, this can also lead to more accidents. If you and your family are planning on travelling this year, here are five travel tips for Christmas presented by Cincinnati Children’s and Toyota to make sure your children are buckled in correctly.

  1. Inch and Pinch. After you’ve installed the seat into your car, grab the seat at the bottom and attempt to move it side to side. If it moves more than an inch, tighten it up. Then, once you have your child buckled, try to pinch the strap near their shoulder. If you can pinch any fabric, tighten the straps.
  2. Secure extra items. You will likely have luggage and gifts travelling with you in the car. Make sure these extras are secure since anything in your car can become a projectile in an accident.
  3. Right way. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children under age 2 sit in a rear-facing seat.
  4. No coats. Yes, it’s winter and cold, but coats and car seats don’t mix. Take off your child’s coat before buckling him or her into her seat. You can then put the coat back on top or use a blanket to keep them warm. A think coat can prevent the harness from properly fitting your child.
  5. Don’t rent a seat. If you’re travelling by plane, bring along your child’s seat. Do not rent one when you arrive at your destination since you don’t know its history.

With these tips in hand, you can help make sure your children are kept safe while in the car.

Thanksgiving is a holiday where families and friends come together for a delicious meal but traveling can be a major hassle. Fortunately, there are several excellent ways to help reduce the hassle and make traveling this Thanksgiving a breeze. Here are some helpful Thanksgiving travel tips from us here at Hurlbert Toyota so you can arrive at your destination with less stress.

Thanksgiving Travel Tips - Epping, New Hampshire holiday season

  • Fly – Flying can be incredibly difficult around Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year. That means it’s important to plan ahead. Book your flight a few weeks in advance and arrive at the airport three or more hours early to ensure you make your flight in time.
  • Drive – Technology has come a long way, which means now is the time to use it for all of your traveling needs. Use navigation systems to plan your route to optimize fuel economy, time, or a balance of both. Most systems can help avoid obstacles like accidents and traffic jams as well.
  • Pack – Whether you plan on flying or driving, pack light. Doing so means there’s less work loading luggage into the car or no baggage fees to pay at the airport. Instead, ship your extra clothes and various other items to your destination by mail.

There’s no denying that the minivan is the ultimate family hauler, but if you’re looking for the best minivan for your family, take a good look at the Toyota Sienna. Edmunds.com and Parents Magazine recently named the Toyota Sienna as one of the 10 best family cars of the year. The Sienna was also named 2016 Best Minivan.

2016 Toyota Sienna - 2016 best minivan

2016 Toyota Sienna Overview

“The endlessly roomy Sienna stands above its competitors for two reasons: It’s the only one with available all-wheel drive, and the especially user-friendly controls help you stay focused on the road,” Parents Magazine writes.

In addition to its class-exclusive available all-wheel drive, the Sienna will impress you with its available Driver Easy Speak. This reduces the need for drivers to shout all the way to the backseat. There is a microphone located near the driver that conveys the driver’s voice through the speakers in the back.

Another great family friendly feature is the Dual-View Entertainment Center. The 16.4-inch widescreen display can simultaneously display two videos. It is compatible with Blu-Ray and comes with an HDMI input and an SD card reader. The screen can be operated from any seat in the Sienna by using the remote control. It also comes with a pair of wireless headphones.

Test drive the 2016 Toyota Sienna today at Hurlbert Toyota to see if it is the perfect fit for your family.

man washing car - spring car cleaning

Now that spring is nearly here, it is time for spring car cleaning. Getting your car spotless after a long winter can increase vehicle resale value and extend the life of your car. Helping you to avoid corrosion and other damaging results of winter driving, spring car cleaning is great for any driver.

According to Fox News, cleaning your car’s underbody is especially important, as it removes salt, dirt, and grime that have built up over the winter. While many car washes have an underbody option, if you can’t find one, simply hose off the undercarriage with plain water. No need to use soap—simply jack up your car and rinse.

Scrub the hard to reach places, including window channels and the bottoms of doors. These areas are often neglected. Also, consider cleaning your car’s fabric with a steam cleaner. If you have leather, treat seats with a special leather cleaner to ensure it lasts longer.

Finally, perform regular maintenance. Replace wiper blades, check and top off fluids, and check tires. Place a penny upside down in the tread; if you see above Abe’s head, it is time for new tires. You should also check and adjust tire pressure if necessary, as every ten-degree increase in temperature increases tire pressure one psi.
