There’s no denying that the minivan is the ultimate family hauler, but if you’re looking for the best minivan for your family, take a good look at the Toyota Sienna. Edmunds.com and Parents Magazine recently named the Toyota Sienna as one of the 10 best family cars of the year. The Sienna was also named 2016 Best Minivan.

2016 Toyota Sienna - 2016 best minivan

2016 Toyota Sienna Overview

“The endlessly roomy Sienna stands above its competitors for two reasons: It’s the only one with available all-wheel drive, and the especially user-friendly controls help you stay focused on the road,” Parents Magazine writes.

In addition to its class-exclusive available all-wheel drive, the Sienna will impress you with its available Driver Easy Speak. This reduces the need for drivers to shout all the way to the backseat. There is a microphone located near the driver that conveys the driver’s voice through the speakers in the back.

Another great family friendly feature is the Dual-View Entertainment Center. The 16.4-inch widescreen display can simultaneously display two videos. It is compatible with Blu-Ray and comes with an HDMI input and an SD card reader. The screen can be operated from any seat in the Sienna by using the remote control. It also comes with a pair of wireless headphones.

Test drive the 2016 Toyota Sienna today at Hurlbert Toyota to see if it is the perfect fit for your family.

Toyota Sienna

Most of us are guilty of speeding. It’s easy to do when you are in a hurry and oftentimes, it just becomes a habit. However, it’s a bad habit! Here are a few arguments against speeding on the road.

LOWERS FUEL EFFICIENCY

Although it can be different for each vehicle, most vehicles operate at ideal efficiency somewhere around 55 mph. Travel above that and you are using more fuel and getting less power exponentially. Try lowering your speed for a month and comparing your fuel costs. You may be surprised!

INTERRUPTS TRAFFIC

To be safe, traffic must be predictable. When you speed, you are creating a degree of unpredictability to those around you. People are more likely to change lanes in front of you because they are expecting the traffic around them to be predictable. Why not be responsible and contribute to a safe driving environment?

INCREASES STRESS

Speeding can increase your stress on the road. When you are going faster than everyone else, and traffic is heavy, this means you are having to constantly pass people. Some people are happy to get out of your way. Others may seem clueless. This can create frustration and annoyance. Why not go with the flow, put on the cruise control and relax?

Instead of having a “Let’s get this over with” attitude about your commute, try to enjoy it! Enjoy some peace and quiet or check out new music or listen to a comedy album. You might find that you don’t mind slowing down at all. Hurlbert Toyota wants to promote safe driving from all of our customers!

Toyota Land Cruiser Interior

The Toyota Land Cruiser gets a major refresh for the 2016 model year, seeing improvements in technology and power. The automaker’s premier luxury SUV has long been the benchmark for the segment and these changes will certainly only enhance the Land Cruiser’s status as such.

As Toyota shared in a press release, the refreshed 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser is “the first in the model’s history equipped with technology designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions.” These exciting new technologies include Frontal Collision Avoidance and Frontal Collision Mitigation, both of which only kick in at speeds less than 24 mph. There’s also Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Auto High Beams.

Historically, the Land Cruiser has always featured a strong and healthy drivetrain. The 2016 model features a new engine, a 5.7-liter DOHC V8 powerhouse producing 401 lb-ft of torque. Ninety percent of peak torque arrives at 2,200 rpm, meaning you don’t have to stress the powertrain to get the get-up-and-go you need when towing.

According to Toyota, “Land Cruiser customers are among the most loyal in the auto industry.” These awesome changes should only increase that loyalty. Visit Hurlbert Toyota for more information!

Car Washing

Washing your car is one of the easiest tasks you can do to protect, and even improve, its resale value. While it may sound simple, there are a few things you should and shouldn’t do to get the most out of your time behind the sponge. Here at Hurlbert Toyota, we’ve got some car washing tips that will both protect your paint and get your car as clean as possible!

Washing your car should be done when it’s cool out, preferably during the morning or evening, and when the car itself is cold. Washing right after driving or under the hot sun will dry water and soap faster. Not only will it take longer to get rid of spots but you may miss some altogether.

As for what you should use, avoid household cleaners and detergents. They aren’t meant for washing a car and may strip off paint’s protective wax. Instead, use a dedicated car wash that’s specifically designed for use on automotive paint.

Use a separate sponge for the wheels. Grains of sand, dirt, and rocks can get caught in the sponge and using it on the paint after the wheels can leave scratches. For the best result, use a natural, soft sponge or lamb’s-wool mitt. Avoid washing in circles as well. This can leave swirl marks that are noticeable on the paint.

Toyota Mirai FCV Concept

With the innovative, potentially game-changing Toyota Mirai coming out later this year, you can bet hydrogen-powered cars are going to be all the rage. Just like when EVs became popular, the question “How do hydrogen cars work?” is sure to be a popular one soon, so here’s a basic rundown.

Hydrogen cars run on hydrogen gas, which is stored in pressure tanks in the vehicle and then passed through a fuel cell stack, where the hydrogen reacts with oxygen to generate electricity. From here, the electricity powers the motor.

Hydrogen cars have an electric battery used to help the car accelerate, but it’s much smaller than the battery in EVs and doesn’t need to be recharged, as regenerative braking and excess electricity from the hydrogen recharge it while driving.

This reaction inside the fuel cell stack releases nothing more than water vapor, so hydrogen cars have zero tailpipe emissions, and the Toyota Mirai has a better mileage range than any zero-emission car on the market at 312 miles. Hydrogen cars are one of our most efficient options, and they’re definitely going to stick around!

Cat in towel

Kitten season is officially upon us, meaning animal shelters across the country are being flooded with tiny furry friends, in addition to the adult population already on hand. This is why June is recognized as Adopt-a-Cat month. If you’ve been considering adding a fuzzy friend to your family, spend some time to find the purrfect new addition.

The American Humane Association offers some great advice when considering adopting a cat. Here are some of their suggestions.

  • Consider adopting two. Cats are very social animals, and with two cats on hand, they will be able to keep each other company. This is especially useful if you work full-time and they are left alone all day.
  • Find a cat with a complimentary personality. Visit with multiple cats and talk with workers at the animal shelter to help you find a cat with a personality that works with yours.
  • Introduce the cat slowly to the family. If you have young children or other pets at home, your new cat will need a few weeks to adjust. Keep them in a secluded area with everything they need and slowly work them into your family unit.

To help you find the ideal kitty, use sites like petfinder.com to search for local cats that are available for adoption. You can even customize the search for adult cats, kittens, and other needs, such as the cat being declawed.

Will you be adding a cuddly, purring addition to your family soon? Send Hurlbert Toyota some pictures if you do!

2015 Toyota RAV4

Not only was the Toyota RAV4 we all know and love refreshed for the 2016 model year, the automaker added the RAV4 Hybrid to its lineup of efficient and eco-friendly vehicles. Toyota Mirai

Toyota has big plans for the Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicle, and they just might be on to the next big thing in alternative fuel. As the Mirai takes off in Japan, here in the U.S. we are preparing for the FCV’s debut in just a few short months. Here is what you need to know about the Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicle before it becomes available right here in the U.S.

  1. It requires no gasoline. FCVs run off of electricity generated by the chemical reaction between hydrogen (held in a pair of high-pressure hydrogen fuel tanks) and oxygen pulled in from outside. That electricity is then sent to the electric motor. The emission is H2O, nothing more than water vapors are released through the tailpipe.
  2. Refueling is fast. Unlike electric cars, which can take hours to charge, hydrogen refueling stations don’t take more than three to five minutes. Another bonus? The car comes with three free years of fuel and maintenance!
  3. It takes no special skills or knowledge to drive. The Mirai is just like gasoline-powered cars in many ways. The first time you sit inside the cockpit, you’ll feel right at ease.
  4. The hydrogen refueling network is expanding. Currently, California offers a fairly extensive network of refueling stations, which is where the Mirai will first be available for sale. That network will undoubtedly expand nationwide thanks to a number of automakers and companies committing to investing in FCV technology.
  5. It offers an extended driving range. The Mirai is expected to earn 60 mpg-equivalent. That means that early adopters in California won’t have to worry about regular commutes – fill ups would be required less-often than in a gasoline car.

Visit treehugger.com for more information!

Still have questions? We invite you to visit us here at Hurlbert Toyota, where we will help you to decide if a future fuel cell vehicle might be right for you.
